High-Pass Filter / Treble Booster

The same two components as the low-pass filter, but in reverse order — this time high frequencies pass through, while low ones are attenuated.

audio in C 1uF filtered OUT → amp R 100R High-pass: C then R to GND — low frequencies are attenuated

How to Build It

  1. Feed the incoming audio signal through a capacitor.
  2. Connect the capacitor's output to a resistor, with the resistor's other end to GND — this is the filtered output.
  3. Take the filtered signal from the junction between the capacitor and resistor.
  4. Connect the filtered output to an amplifier or headphones.
  5. Compare with the original signal — low frequencies (the bass) should be noticeably attenuated, while high sounds are emphasized.
