Circuit Diagram
How to Build It
- Wire the 555 timer in a fast astable configuration (small resistors, ~1K, small capacitor ~10nF) to generate rapid pulses.
- Connect the 555's output (pin 3) to the CD4017's clock input (pin 14).
- Connect the CD4017's 6 relevant outputs (Q0-Q5, matching the die faces) each to an LED with a current-limiting resistor.
- Connect a button between the CD4017's RESET pin and ground, to reset the count to face 1 if needed.
- Insert a start/stop button in the 555's supply line — pressing it runs the counter rapidly; releasing stops it on a random LED.
- Test a few times — each press should land on a different, random face.
